Just as for the adults, there’s plenty of food and fun awaiting the kids at the Stockton Asparagus Festival. Once they tire of the array of fun rides and activities in the Kids Asparazone at Weber Point, they might want to catch one of the shows at the Sea Lion Encounter and get close and personal with a sea lion for a photo.
Then it may be on to the Skyy Dog Arena in Civic Court to see the acrobatic canines showing off their incredible disc-catching ability, graceful aerobatic skill and talent at jumping rope. They’ll want to stay to watch the unbelievable Tyson, the skateboarding bulldog. Tyson is a skater who just happens to be a dog and has wowed crowds at the Festival for the past two years.
Kids will be enthralled with Velocity Circus, something new at the Festival this year. Located in the intersection of Center and Fremont streets, this Cirque du Soleil-type show features spectacular aerobatic performances from an elevated truss structure. Acts include a mystical contortionist, a mesmerizing aerial tissue artist, a world-famous hoop artist, and a fantastic slack rope artist.
The DeCarli Stage at DeCarli Square offers community entertainment for all ages, and kids would especially appreciate some of the ethnic dance groups. Strolling entertainment, including the stilt-walking Dragon Knights characters will fascinate younger guests. Also catching their attention will be the antics of the California Repercussions, a strolling band composed mostly of former collegiate marching-band members.
And then there’s the food. In addition to the deep-fried asparagus at Asparagus Alley, there’s a multitude of choices up and down Center Street to entice any youngster, including hot dogs, corn dogs, funnel cakes, cotton candy, and more.
