The competition is free to all contestants 18 and over, and limited to the first 12 contestants who sign up. Locals may consider it fun. The professional IFOCE competitors likely will have fun competing, too, but they take the contest seriously.
Joey Chestnut made good on his promise to regain the World Deep-Fried Asparagus Eating Championship title at the 26th Annual Stockton Asparagus Festival. The #1-ranked Chestnut ate 9 lbs 5.2 oz of the deep-fried asparagus spears to win his fifth asparagus title in six years.
Coming in second place was Pat Bertoletti, eating 7 lbs 3.5 oz, beating defending Champ Matt Stonie who choked down 6 lbs 12 oz.
Other notable scores had Adrian Morgan at 6 lbs 6 oz, Erik Denmark at 5 lbs and Kevin Ross at 4 lbs 12 oz.
For their performances, Chestnut, Bertoletti and Stonie took home $1,500, $750 and $500, respectively.
