Arts and Crafts just ain’t what they used to be.

When one thinks of doing arts and crafts one usually recalls their elementary school days where making a perfectly round paper-mache ball from a balloon was considered masterpiece material. The word professional certainly doesn’t come to mind, so, why on earth would someone want to go look at or even buy other peoples’ “arts and crafts?” I tell you what; they don’t call it “Art & Wine” for nothing!
New this year to the Stockton Asparagus Festival, there will be actual (and by actual, we’re talking real Professional) Fine Artists who whittle, shape, solder, paint, sculpt, cut and capture natural elements to create art. Some new features this year will be woodturning demonstrations by the NorCal Woodturners as well as free kids craft activities by Stockton Macaroni Kid and meet-the-author book sales at the Stockton Arts Commission hospitality tent (just so you’re not the only one having fun). Of course the shopping experience wouldn’t be complete without some great wine from four different local wineries. You’ll love sampling glasses from Woodbridge Winery, Toasted Head, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, and Rex Goliath.

With the festival slated a week earlier on April 15, 16 & 17, 2011, due to Easter weekend falling on the usual dates, festival staff have been working earnestly to produce this year’s brand and develop printed collateral ahead of schedule.
An exciting logo has already been created for 2011, establishing colors and a new look for all printed materials, including t-shirts and merchandise. Vendor applications for commercial vendors and exhibitors and food purveyors have been distributed and placed on the festival website. The website is being updated with information going up as soon as new developments happen.
Arts & Crafts has undergone some drastic changes, becoming Art & Wine, with wine being introduced to the mix featuring regional wineries around the fountain at Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza. The layout has been revamped to provide better access to exhibitors and increase the number of participating artists. Applications have been mailed, and also placed on the festival website.
