Over ten years later, and asparagus ice cream is back!

For years, people have been asking for Asparagus Ice Cream at the annual Stockton Asparagus Festival, which has not been available there for over a decade.  Since it’s the festival’s 25th anniversary, the Stockton Conference & Visitors Bureau was determined to have the unusual frozen treat make its return.

We were advised by local ice cream maker Gleason’s Ice Cream on the process of creating Asparagus Ice Cream.  From there it was off to the kitchen where we started off with a vanilla base and whipped up about three gallons of asparagus ice cream for people to taste. The feedback has been very positive, and production is underway to make 300 gallons of ice cream required to produce the 5,000 servings that will be served over the three-day festival.

Look for it at the Asparagus Pasta booth on Asparagus Alley. Limited servings of the frozen treat will be available each day. So make sure you try out this unique tasty treat before it all melts away!
