Eat to Compete for Cash!

You already eat, so why not compete to win cash prizes at the Stockton Asparagus Festival? Anyone 18 years or older can join and you can do so by visiting IFOCE event page. On April 28th, 2012; a huge crowd will gather in anticipation while contestants will line up to consume as much deep fried asparagus as quickly as they can.

For those competing, the only way to beat your competition is to know what you’re up against. Exhibit A: Joey Chestnut.

Joey Chestnut is 27 years old, weighs in at 230 pounds and reigns from San Jose, California. He’s had a long standing career in the business of eating. Over the years he has consumed hotdogs, hamburgers and philly cheesesteaks, to chicken wings, jalapeno poppers and funnel cakes. It’s amazing that he even has stomach lining left! Joey has taken home many prizes and we’re pretty sure he will stop it nothing to win again…

Last year at the Stockton Asparagus Festival he ate 9 pounds, 5.2 ounces of deep fried asparagus in just 10 minutes. He barely flinched. We have footage to prove it.

But it’s not just Joey that you have to worry about, it’s all the others that pushed him to eat just that little bit more. Check out all the major leaguers at IFOCE.com and look their rankings. You think you can beat these guys?! By all means, show us!!! Register today, we hope to see you eat your way to the top!

April 28, 2012. 12 Pm start time, with a $2,750.00 total purse. Go to our Eating Competition page for more details.

World’s Top-Ranked Eater Looks For Redemption at The Asparagus Festival

In 2004, Joey Chestnut competed in the Stockton Asparagus Festival’s Fried Asparagus Eating World Championship.  It was Chestnut’s first professional eating event, one that he won and a victory that launched the career of America’s greatest modern day Major League Eater. Chestnut is a California native and the asparagus title has always been dear to his heart.  But, in 2009, Chestnut lost the title to Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago.  On, Chestnut will return to the Weber Point Event Center in Stockton, walk through Asparagus Alley and approach the stage where his career began.

“The deep-fried asparagus eating contest is certainly a highlight of our festival,” said Kate Post, executive director of the Stockton Asparagus Festival. “Last year the fans were stunned at Joey’s loss.  And, while they were gracious to the new champion, I expect a huge crowd to turn out this year to root on Joey Chestnut, the greatest eater ever to take the stage in Stockton.”

Chestnut has consumed 8.6 pounds of deep-fried asparagus in 10 minutes.  He has won three consecutive Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating titles and is still the top-ranked eater in the world.  Standing between him and asparagus eating glory are fourteen other Major League eaters currently registered to compete in the World Deep-Fried Asparagus-Eating Championship, which occurs at high noon on April 24 and kicks off a busy festival day.
