On behalf of everyone with the Stockton Asparagus Festival – Thank you!

A humongous thanks to everyone who attended our annual Asparagus Festival! You helped us break the 2nd highest attendance record of over 100,000! We’d especially like to thank all the hard work from our volunteers, and all of our Booth and Entertainment participants. Without which, we would not have had such a successful event! Until next year (our 27Th Annual, April 27-29, 2012) . . . eat your asparagus!

Fun Facts About The Festival’s History

The first Stockton Asparagus Festival was profitable due to the “seed money” donated by Bob Eberhardt and the Bank of Stockton who “bankrolled” our first venture. The first festival took place on April 26 & 27, 1986. Over 1,534 individual volunteers representing 51 non-profits donated 8019 hours to the festival. Today, those numbers have grown to over 5,000 volunteers and over 29,000 hours worked, with proceeds distributed to 104 different local charities. Our first festival drew between 25,000 and 30,000 attendees over the course of the two day festival. Now we have over three times that number of attendees, and have extended the festival to three days. The first Stockton Asparagus Festival raised $40,000 for local charities. Needless to say festival organizers were thrilled and so were the local non-profits. Today we are still going strong with our festival “spear-it” and have donated almost $5.1 million to over 100 local non-profits to date.

It’s crispy, savory, and people can’t get enough of it!

Deep-Fried Asparagus, that is. The first festival started with only 3 fryers…we now own 42 deep fryers!!  Over the years, festival-goers have consumed tons of the delicious stuff. 18 tons of it, to be exact! If you’ve never had it, you’re in for a treat. If you have had it, we know you’ll come back for more this year.  The preparation of this delectable treat includes Tempura Batter, Parmesan Cheese, Tobasco Sauce, Salt, Pepper, Granulated Garlic, Distilled White Vinegar, Fresh Asparagus, and of course lots of Volunteers!

People bring the whole family to The Stockton Asparagus Festival because it’s bunches of fun for everyone, and we think you’ll agree, this is everyone’s favorite thing to eat there. Just ask Joeny “Jaws” Chestnut, he’s the winner of last year’s Deep-Fried Asparagus Eating Competition!
